Fundraiser for Placerville: Make things better

Bring your kids (or yourself) out on Sunday, 11/24, and together we’ll help them assemble their very own wooden stools. Parts will be pre-cut, so they’ll get to nail it all together and paint it. Then, take it home to enjoy and use!

This event is certainly not limited to kids, adults are more than welcome to put together their own stool kit, as well. Please just comment on your RSVP with the number of kits I should prep for your party, so I can do enough prep work.

Please also feel free to come out and lend emotional support and make some new friends, even if you can’t contribute to the fundraiser. I’m so proud of the community we’ve built in this group, and I’d really love to meet some of you in person!

Thanks so much to BossMan Al at Placerville Public House for letting us host the event at his place in Downtown Placerville. Be sure to stick around and have lunch there, after we’re done, they just updated their kitchen and upgraded their whole menu this week! Thanks also to Abigail Paige for hooking us up on social media to get the word out.

Please let him know if you can make it out for the event! Those that want to contribute, but can’t make it to the event can contribute to the PayPal pool right here: https://paypal.me/pools/c/8iYeZeZriE

If you plan to attend, it’s REALLY important that you RSVP, so I can make enough kids for your kids

Purple belt promotion at the noon bjj class

Purple belt promotion at el dorado hills jiujitsu!

Gary has been with EDH since day one. He’s had some things slow him down, but he has always found a way to get back on the mat and be consistent.

Consistency means something different for everyone. For someone like Gary, he has had to define and redefine what that means. In doing so he has made jiujitsu, and training a part of a lifestyle in practice.

edh bjj brown belt promotion

Brown belt promotion at el dorado hills jiujitsu last week. Allen has been training jiujitsu for a little over 7 years now. He is a leader by example and a great mentor to all of us.

Allan has embraced a fun and competitive approach to jiujitsu. He does a great job varying his intensity with tournament preparation. A student of the game , if he’s not training for a tournament he’s looking to add a new set of skills to his jiujitsu tool belt.

As a master competitor he has won gold as a blue belt and purple belt at the world master championships.

US Open BJJ Tour results from El Dorado Hills Jiu Jitsu

El Dorado Hills Jiu Jitsu competitor results from the Saturday portion of the BJJ Tour.

Mateo takes Gold with a stunning performance overwhelming his opponents in his division.
Frank won double gold in his division and open class division. This was a great opportunity for him to work on some of his holes in competition. He did just that and showed no mercy even from positions he wouldn’t call his A game. What an incredible growing opportunity and stellar performance.
Slater followed through on some adversity today. Won some and lost some but he kept getting back up to battle and finished with a silver.

Placerville pg&e power help

If you know someone who needs help during this power outage, please read this!

Hey neighbors, I’m looking to put together supply runs for people in the Placerville/Pollock/nearby areas who need things like flashlights, batteries, gas, water, a cooler with some ice, and other basics. I’ve been hearing non-specific stories about that need, but I want to actually put a plan in action, and I’m hoping to make a run this evening (10/10).

My name is Jesse Jones, and I’m just starting up a group called Placerville Make Things Better, and I figure this power outage is as good a chance as any to get moving. If you or a neighbor need things from the following list (or something similar), please either text or call me at 916-258-2297.

  • Water
  • Ice
  • Cooler
  • Gas
  • Propane
  • Batteries
  • Flashlight/lantern

If there are some commonly-needed basics I should add to that list, let me know, but I’d like to keep a good supply of more general goods than try to hit everyone’s specific needs.

Now, the second part: I need donors and volunteers. If you just want to chip in $5 or $20 to help buy supplies, I set up a PayPal pool here: https://paypal.me/pools/c/8iYeZeZriE

Also, if you have an old cooler, extra gas cans, maybe some of those 5-gallon Alhambra water bottles, etc., I can take some quick donations of those to redistribute to people. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them back, but put your name and number on it, and I’ll try to get them back to their owners when this is all over.

If you have time to actually organize and make a supply run, let me know that, too. I’ll be setting up some Google Docs to track the requests I get, and I’ll try to keep them organized.

You guys are an awesome community, and I’m sure we can make a few people get along better with just a little bit of help on our part. Call me with any questions: 916-258-2297 — supporting Placerville.

Professor Van from New Zealnd visits EDH BJJ

We love having visitors, especially when they are as awesome as Professor Van! Black belt and jiujitsu instructor from New Zealand.

Van has shared her time with us before and it’s always great to have her while she is on vacation visiting her family in town. We had a great class where she showed variations of the “matrix,” and her adjustments she uses to make it her own. Thank you for the great lesson!

Can showed an entry to the matrix from a failed x guard position to the crab ride. She also showed an entry to the matrix from a failed x guard sweep. Both were great additions to technical positions for the team!

Jiu Jitsu Blue belt promotion in the hills!

Blue belt promotion! Ryan has been a diligent practitioner for the past several years but was sidelined with an injury that forced him to sit out for an extended period at time. As soon as he had recovered he was back on the mats and training consistently. We are proud to have him at the academy to promote him to Blue belt! Keep up the good work, Ryan!

It’s great to see students achieve the next level of challenge in the form of a belt promotion in jiujitsu. Although Ryan was out with an injury and surgery, he was always connected to the academy and found a way back into the dojo. Even though he wasn’t training it never felt like he was away. He’s a great example what what to do when you are injured and unable to train the way everyone else is.

We’re looking forward to seeing him continue to train and make an impact on those who might find themselves injured or down and out from not being able to fully train like everyone else.
