Belt promotion for Zach in El Dorado Hills

Gray white belt promotion

Zach is a great example of someone who has embraced being coached. He has figured out how to focus on input from his family, teammates, and communicate back with them.

Being coachable is a skill people overlook and take for granted. At higher levels of sport and martial art people will make statements like, “they’re not coachable.” And that’s most likely because they were never taught how to receive input and be coached.

We’re very excited to see him step up to a new challenge on and off the mat!

Masters Jiu Jitsu class in El Dorado Hills (age 40+)

Hey 40+ folks – I’m super excited to be teaching the Masters Class in February! Can’t wait to get started! Some of the key topics that I’ve planned for the class:

**Information exchange – If you’re over 40 you’ve graduated from the school of hard knocks, trial & error. Lets share info and tips about BJJ strategy, recovery and staying on the mat!

**Mobility – We all need to know our bodies better in order to improve in jiu jitsu. I’ll share some mobility drills, balance and movements that have helped improve my jiu jitsu game.

**Injury prevention – Especially shoulders, neck, knees and hips. We will learn ways to take care of these areas so we can keep training.

**Skill improvement – You will learn how to flow roll and some regular drilling of course.

**Rolling – learn how to beat those pesky kids!

What are some of the things that you would like to get out of the class? Let me know in the comments.

Blue belt promotion 6am jiujitsu

Blue belt promotion in El Dorado Hills!

Mike has been a life long martial artist and brings all the elements of someone who understands the values of martial arts to the mat. We’ve enjoyed having him share his passion for the arts along with his avid enthusiasm to learn and develop his skills.

He recently organized a community event that taught the basics of single blade knife self defense. The event organized an opportunity to learn but also raise funds for “Placerville Make things better” and their next project building a ramp for a local resident in Placerville.

Mike is a humble warrior and constantly striving for self improvement. We are excited to see him continue to progress as he makes his way through the blue belt.

Blue belt promotion to Joel

Blue belt promotion ★🛡柔🛡★
Congratulations to Joel on his blue belt promotion! He moved back to the mainland from Hawaii and started training after the influence of his family on the mat. Joel brings a “can do” attitude and loves looking into being his best self both on and off the mat. As a result, he is someone who instills a desire in all of us to be our best even on days when we are not. For his project, he has woven a business networking website for those involved in business at the dojo to connect and collaborate!

Single blade knife seminar in El Dorado Hills

We are hosting a single blade knife self defense seminar at El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This seminar will focus on defending single blade attacks such prison stabs and slashes. This seminar will be a look into what edged weapons training looks like. The idea is that you are not going to come out of a knife fight unscathed. You will get cut in all reality. The idea is to take the least amount of damage while mounting a sufficient defense to escape, strip the blade, or possible subdue the attacker.

The seminar will be taught by Bill Joseph. In addition to Bill, some other martial artists with extensive edge weapons experience will attend the event and assist in instruction.

100% of the proceeds from the seminar will be applied to funds to install a wheelchair ramp for United States Marine Corps Veteran Corporal H Earl Ford.

Acro and inversions class in el dorado hills

We had the pleasure of hosting our first Acro and inversions class in el dorado hills this week! Seriah and Sean, from The Handstand Nation led the two hour class.

Many drills and exercises were practiced in helping the multi leveled class better understand how to balance on your hands. The class was a great opportunity to explore flexibility, mobility, strength, balance, and alignment.

Sean demonstrates as a base

In addition to handstand work, we spent time working with one another as spotters. This requires great trust in your partner and communication. As a result, the practice also had a strong sense of team building and collaboration. There’s a lot of work taking place but also a lot of talking and that’s a great thing!

Seriah and Sean did a great job explaining the different mechanics of movement and holds but also made great care to emphasize safety. As fun as all these things can be, they can be dangerous. It’s reassuring to know that the coaches care about your safety along with all the other things. After all, there’s no sense in doing something fun if it’s going to result in being reckless and dangerous.

We hope to continue to host Seriah and Sean of The Handstand Nation more in 2020. Look for their classes on our calendar and website!
