Gray Belt Promotion in El Dorado Hills jiujitsu juniors& teens class

Gray Belt Promotion

🛡柔🥋柔🛡

Keaton moves up in belt rank after three year of jiujitsu. He has challenged himself not just in practice but also in competitions in the Bay Area!

He has inspired his brother to start training with him and has really taken to heart the idea of responsibility. We know that responsibility isn’t something that is given. Instead it is something taken.

Keaton has taken responsibility for his training and learning by helping those around him, challenging himself in competition, and being responsible for his actions on and off the mat! Keep being the leader that you are!

American Cup Results from the Hills

On April 28th & 29th The BJJ Tour hosted the 11th annual American Cup at Independence High School in San Jose, CA. The tournament boasted over 900 competitors, including: a Black Belt Pro division, Masters, Kids, and armature for White Belts to Brown Belts.

El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brought 3 competitors this year:

Mason Mahoney fought his first tournament at 7 years old. He was very eager to compete and had a tremendous attitude before and after his match. After fighting very hard for the entire 3 minutes he walked away without his hand raised, but gained a valuable experience and taste for competing on one of the biggest stages for kid’s competition.

Mateo Diaz has been competing a lot this past year and added a second place medal to his resume at the American Cup in the Boys 2004 Gray Belt lightweight division. He had a spectacular performance in the Semifinals with an armbar to finish the match.

Aaron Martinez fought in the Master 3 Black Belt Lightweight division and has a nice sweep from guard, but eventually was submitted by armbar from his opponent in his first match.

The BJJ Tour is a tournament series founded and promoted by Master Claudio Franca, who is a pioneer for helping introduce BJJ Competitions in America. The tournaments have a reputation for being professional and well organized.

Wim Hof Method Workshop with Reed Shelger: Breathing & Meditation

The wim hof method workshop led by personal trainer Reed Shelger at el dorado hills brazilian jiu jitsu was a great spark to better understand the science, theory and application of breath work, yoga and extreme cold to better the body on and off the mat.

There is an incredible sense of focus and deep degree of mindfulness that can be attained through the process of meditation and commonly talked about as the wim hof method.

IBJJF San Jose Open: Bronze at Black Belt

Athlete-Coach Jerel Tengan took to the mats at the IBJJF San Jose Open. This was his first competition at the black belt division and finished with a bronze medal in the tournament. He was competing up in weight class and age category to get some competition experience before taking the mats at the Master World Championships this summer in Las Vegas. A great start to break in the black belt category and gain valuable experience.

A challenge worth taking

Every day is an opportunity to challenge yourself! Jiu-Jitsu is a great challenge for yourself; not just physically and mentally, but also for your self discipline. It’s okay if you’re not the best one on the mat, or if you get submitted once a minute. If you come on time, give it your all while you are there, and train at a realistic consistency you will improve! That is a challenge worth taking!

Purple Belt Promotion: Kenny

Purple belt promotion for Kenny.

Kenny has been doing jiujitsu for over two decades. In EDH he has been the person that practices perseverance, patience, and has always sought to understand jiujitsu as a art and expression of himself. He trains with the intent to help himself as well as his training partner improve. Kenny takes the challenges he is given as motivation to progress, improve, and better realize his weakness.

In his journey, he has trained at several different academies depending on his place of work and living, always loyal to his coaches and we are happy to have him in El Dorado Hills. He embraces the journey as an opportunity to better understand himself. Through this, his awareness for others in work, family, and life are exceptional. We appreciate the sense of dedication and commitment he brings to the mat.

Gold Medals at the Gentle Art Challenge in San Jose

Tanner and Jamie both won gold at the Gentle Art Challenge in San Jose. The Gentle Art Challenge was a submission only tournament with EBI-style overtime rules to decide the winner in the case the match regulation didn’t end with a submission.

Tanner and Jamie both won with submissions to decisively win their divisions at the tournament in San Jose.

The submission style tournament is one of the growing forms of competition styles in the sport. In the submission only tournament there is no points for advancement in position or attacks, but only when you submit your opponent with a viable attack are you declared the winner.

BJJ DEMO at CSU Sacramento Japan Day from El Dorado Hills

El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was in attendance for another great public demonstration of jiujitsu at the CSU Sacramento Japan Day event.

This is one of the biggest student organized events on campus featuring the Japan Club and activities related to Japanese language and culture.

The BJJ demo showed the many different aspects of jiujitsu, athleticism, art, performance, choreography, technique, discipline, leverage, and more. Each performance was choreographed by the students with little to no input from a coach. The students were challenged to take on the performance to showcase their knowledge of jiujitsu and at the same time help others understand what it means to do jiujitsu. Some emphasized the self defense aspect of the art while other emphasized the sport and exciting movements to captivate the audience. It was also an opportunity to talk about the migration of jiujitsu from Japan, Brazil, and now all over the world. A fitting demonstration sponsored by the department of world languages and literatures at CSU Sacramento.

NoGi Jiu Jitsu // Submission Wrestling 🤼‍♂️ @jamieg.sharpshooter will be sharing the sharp details she’s acquired from her R&D // Research & Development // Refinement & Dedication // Routine & Discipline //

On May 5th and May 12th Jamie will be leading a class teaching the details of attacking and defending the ASHI GARAMI. The Ashi Garami, a Japanese phrase meaning leg entanglement, is a way to secure and control the entire body through a system of leg attacks. Jamie has been studying the position for a while and has developed a deadly system to dismember the leg from the ankle, calf, knee and connect it into other attacks.

In addition to the offensive system, Jamie will be teaching some safety tips on training with leg entanglements and tactfully defending against an opponent in attack.

The workshop will take place on Saturday May 5th and 12th during the 11am all level adult class.
