Team update during closure

Dear Team,

We really appreciate the support you have been giving us to keep our jiu jitsu school viable through the quarantine and after. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

We currently have an online class archived on our website, as well as live classes being taught on FB live and Zoom. Please refer to our website calendar to join in on our live class sessions….we want to stay connected and continue to grow and learn as jiu jitsu practitioners!

We want to do our part to help our team so we have reduced your membership by 25% from March 27th.

If possible, we encourage to pass the 25% on to support local small businesses or to support families that have been impacted.

We miss everyone and look forward to resuming training in person and learning with everyone all together!

0600 black & blue Friday

Here is origin of our tribute rash guards.

It is not a nickname class, the name is a tribute to law enforcement, first responders, military, or any public service careers that operate on a 2400 military style clock. Even Ted Volpendesta, working his butt off as a nurse right now in these crazy times- he even operates on a 2400 clock.

I created the rash guards for the proceeds to be donated to a law enforcement type charity. It is not a separator, it is a unifier to support our brothers and sisters on the front line. In OUR Jiu Jitsu community, there are many. This is one for you. The rash guards is for the WHOLE DOJO.

Here is some of the other back story.

I served in the Army for 15 years (Believe it or not, I’m Eliot’s age ) lol. I did physical training every morning my whole military career and when I was training, it was always something like 0530, 0600, 0630… So when I joined the 6 am class, I would call it 0600 out of habit and tradition.

The other half, is jokingly I would call it Black Gi Friday cuz it sounded cool and since I have a BIG MOUTH, I would repeat it in class, Black Gi Friday- and it started to stick after 2 years of saying it with my big mouth. Michael Ferrel who comes to 0600 doesn’t own a black gi. Actually he only owns blue gis I think Lol so it was never going to be all black, so then I started saying Black and Blue Friday – Hence the tribute was born.

Please, our class is not a separator, it is a unifier. In times like these especially, for those continuing to serve our communities on the front lines, Thank You!!!!!!!!

All Love!!!

Joey

March 16th Class

Our first online class with lots of things I gotta fix but it’ll get better I promise.

Thank you everyone for your very very kind messages of support. I’m moved by your kindness to support the dojo. It’s inspiring to me to try even harder. I am full of gratitude.

Please send me a Facebook friend request and personal message “add me” so I can include you in our private team chat. Here we can post video, write comments, and stay connected.

The gentle art challenge in Sacramento Fitness Expo

The Gentle Art Challenge

February 24, 2020

By Aaron Martinez

Last Saturday our competition team participated in the Gentle Art Challenge, which is the Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament held at the Evo fitness Expo in Sacramento. The expo was packed with other types of fitness competitions: Boxing, Pro Wrestling, Olympic Lifting, Power Lifting, Karate, Taekwondo, Skate Boarding, archery, and many others. It’s a great atmosphere of energetic competitiveness, but also a great respect between the different sports and fitness styles as competitors became spectators before and after their performances.

Our kid’s team came out huge with 9 competitors, which was nearly half of the total Kids competitors for the entire tournament. A few of our kids had actual brackets with competitors from other schools, but most of our team had to compete under Consolation matches. Consolation matches are simply matches for the fun and experience of it, rather than winning divisions and medals.

We also had two of our Purple Belt coaches compete in the NoGi submission only divisions. Coach Bobby had an aggressive and offensive match for 7 minutes, but lost in the overtime by not escaping the back control as fast as his opponent did.

Coach Jamie had two beautiful submissions in her two matches. She won the first by a guillotine choke and the second with a heal hook for a Gold Medal in her division.

It was a wonderful day with the team. The tournament had the feeling of an in-house tournament with so many of our kids and families in attendance. There was plenty of space and activities for the team to spend some quality time with each other, and really bond over a fun day of competing.

Hopefully we can make this an annual tradition.

(Coach Bobby teaches our woman’s self-defense program on Wednesdays & Fridays at 9AM, and Coach Jamie teaches our Tuesday & Thursday All-Levels classes at 3:30pm)

Event to benefit El Dorado County Sheriff family

Hey everyone! I want to invite you to an awesome community event to help support the family of El Dorado County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Ishmael.

In the early morning hours of October 23rd, 2019, Deputy Ishmael was shot and killed in the line of duty while serving our community. Deputy Ishmael leaves behind a wife and three young children. In an effort to honor Deputy Ishmael, and support the family he leaves behind, Sierra Vista Winery in Placerville is hosting a 5K Hero Run on April 4th, 2020, at 10am.

I encourage everyone to participate in the event. You can follow the link and sign up under the team name, “El Dorado Hills Brazilian jiu-jitsu.” 100% of the proceeds for the Hero Run will be donated to the family of Deputy Ishmael. Please share this post with friends, family, coworkers or anyone who would be interested in coming out to the event to show their support.

If you are unable to attend the event, still follow the link and you can choose to sign up as a virtual participant, or simply donate funds directly without participating.

This is a great opportunity to serve our community by supporting the family of a man who gave everything to serve his.

Thank you, and I hope to see everyone at the Sierra Vista Winery on April 4th!
